Ann Arbor, Michigan
The purpose of this project was to replace the existing AAA branch located on Main Street directly across the street from UM stadium. The existing branch was outdated and did not meet the needs of AAA and their clients. A new 5,443 sf building was constructed on a parcel of land North of the existing building. Phasing the project allowed AAA to offer continuous service to their clients without interruption.
The most challenging design portion of this project was adhering to Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County stormwater requirements on a small urban site with significant grade differential. Sheet flow of stormwater to a bioswale was utilized to take advantage of grades on site, while outletting to an underground detention system enabled complete adherence to all local codes. Innovative landscape design utilizing Lily turf eliminated the need for irrigation on site while simultaneously reducing future maintenance costs. PEA worked with NSA Architects on this project.
